Almost 365: Leading Lines

This photo is going right back to the very early days of my Project 365 when i still had my Nikon D90! Maybe a little cheesy but i did quite like this simple shot!

Look Left Again – 06/05/09

I thought I should start to post up some of the best shots from ‘My Year One’ of photography. This photo was taken one evening as part of a work photography club, this shot won me an evening photo course, and made it as far as the Short List for the 2009 Photographer of the Year. It is far from my favourite photo I have taken but is certainly my most successful.

Day 29 ‘On Christmas Morning’ – 25/12/09

It has been a fantastic day so far, lots of bubbly, bacon bagels and unwrapping of presents. We’re just back from walking the doggies, and settling down before we kick of the big Christmas Roast! This is a little shot of our little Maltese Pup who was VERY VERY excited this Christmas Morning

Day 20 ‘Santa Claus is coming to town!’ – 16/12/09

Working from home today, still in recovery mode, so thought i might cheer myself with a little Cheesy Christmas spirit for todays photo! We bought these Santa Claus Christmas lights last year, and i liked the Bokeh effect on the ones in the distance. Once i’m better it is back to black and white shots of London Streets, but for now it’s day 20 and still going strong

Day 9 ‘Paradise City’ – 05/12/09

I wanted to try and get out an take a more complete photo today, so took a walk along the canals near where i live. I found this spot underneath one of the bridges, and was drawn to it by the sad plight of the person  obviously  sleeping rough here, contrasted by the graffiti tags of JAKEY BOI and CHUBBZ. It was nice to be out with my proper camera (Nikon D90) to be able to catch this dark moody shot.

Day 2 ‘Hoboerotica Live at The Cavendish Arms’ - 28/11/09

Today i had the pleasure to photograph comedy jazz-funk band Hoboerotica Live at the Cavendish Arms Stockwell. This is really the first time i have tried my hand at any kind of gig photography, and the challenges of getting the settings right were a little tricky. I had my D90 with the 35mm f/1.8 and in the end i stuck to taking the majority of the shots at f/1.8,  1/100, iso 1600. Perhaps the biggest challenge of photographing this particular comedy jazz-funk gig was avoiding camera shake because i was laughing so hard!

Highlights of the night for me were “Worse than an Estate Agent”, “Farmers Market” and “Where my Bonus?” as well as the audience participation, where the audience had a chance to put lyrics and musical styles to the band to play. I’m not sure my co-authored “The Boy with the Biggest Fingers” will make it to any other gigs, but it was great to hear it played to the stylings of Stevie Wonder does Hip Hop!
