Can You Tell What it is Yet?

This is the final post from the Mastering Composition Photo Walk with Steve Davey. This photo is capturing a group of people making sand sculptures on the banks of the Thames. The key tip from Steve for this shot was to make sure we got St Pauls into the frame, making sure this was an iconic image of London, rather than a beach shot from anywhere in the world.

Day 365 ‘One Final Shot’ – 26/11/10

This is the unofficial final image for the project,not sure it really plays into my Countdown? But to me the stoney banks has a feel of a single line, so I am sticking it in!

It’s a cold frosty morning as the sun rises, starting another day in London’s Docklands.

It’s still early, so I head down onto the banks of the Thames to look around the broken down ruins from a time now past.

I set of towards work, enjoying the diferant architecture arround me as I walk.

So many CCTV camera’s watching my progress. I start to count them as i walk, but lose count somewhere around 50.

I join the ranks of the Unknown Commuters

I remember mornings catching the crowded underground into work.

Later, as I stand by the coffee machine I notice two men across from watering the roof of the Wintergarden.

At lunchtime I take a walk around the old docks, enjoying the fresh air.

Two workers cross the bridge in front of me, stepping perfectly in synch with one and other.

The day becomes night, and  office lights make buildings look like giant circuit boards.

It is late as I walk home. The DLR station is quiet, looking like the belly of a space craft.

I cross canals and bridges on my way home.

A plane crosses the night like a shooting star.

I am lucky, i have a warm bed tonight.

Not everyone here is as lucky as me.

Day 170 ‘Green Ghosts’ – 15/05/10

This was snapped down on the banks of the thames, i loved the way the moss (if that is what it is) was growing over this chain. This seemed to have echos of the past, hence the title of the photo.

Day 138 ‘IMG_3149’– 13/04/10

As a slight change today i have left my photo unnamed, other than it’s automated filename from the Powershot S90 indicating that this is the 3149th photo taken on that camera as part. What on earth happened to the missing 3000 wasted photo’s that have not made it up onto the blog? This shot was snapped on the banks of the Thames near my home on the way into work on what was finally a beautiful sunny day!! This is a departure back to my black and white stylings, that have taken a back seat to experimentation recently.

Day 86 ‘Looking Up’ – 20/02/10

I love the lampposts along the banks of the Thames near my home, this i perhaps a cliched photo but i like the stark lines and colours. This has been processed to have a slightly retro feel which i felt gave it a slightly more interesting look.

Day 27 ‘Broken Glass’ – 23/12/09

I may yet regret not taking a plethora of more Christmassy photo’s as i near the end of the Project 365 challenge. But i really like this broken bottle i found on the banks of the Thames on my way into work. I’d love to know what the bottle was for originally?

Day 18 ‘Strength and Shadow’ – 14/12/09

Another shot from my favourite spot on the banks of the Thames near my home. I like the textures in the chain and the wall, and the shadow the chain was casting in the early morning sun. Not the most inspiring of titles…i may yet come back and alter if inspiration hits me.

More importantly this marks the completion of the first 5% of the challenge, only the remaining 95% to go!

Day 8 ‘Mind the Gap’ – 04/12/09

One of my favourite places to take photographs is on the banks of the Thames near where i live. This morning the tide was low and the sun was shining, i had wanted to grab a nice panorama, but i was so pleased with this shot i couldn’t help but post up another texture shot. This is a close up of an old wooden pillar, that would have been part of the old dockland structure on the banks of the Thames. This is basically straight out of the camera, with only a slight tweak to the contrast.
